Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not allow her to act until she reached the age of adulthood because of the negative effects that stress could be able to have on their daughter. Perry was shy during high school and did not act. The actress began her acting career at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was moved to the university from Boston University. Perry following her graduation from Boston University, moved to New York in search of acting roles on television. Her small part was on TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness led her to California to find theater work. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway as a couple in The Other Place, in 2013. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was performed in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was featured nine times on The Family, an ABC film The Family, in 2016. Her father played her character in The ABC drama Scandal. That same year she was cast as a young character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger character of her mom's character. She got the part in an audition that was open despite being a fan of the persona.
